Computer Carbon Footprint

We are hopefully all aware of the fact that humans are responsible for the acceleration of Global Warming.  But where do most of the carbon emissions come from think of burning fossil fuels, deforestation, factories, fires, and the many means of transportation. There is a little paid attention to contributor that we are all very guilty of everytime we send an email or check the scores of our favorite sports team…computers. There are over 1 billion computers around the world and a new report (read here) has shown that the global IT sector is responsible for around 2% of human carbon dioxide emissions each year. This figure is comparable to the global airline industries!!
